Institutes 2017

Evolve or go Extinct…..

It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change- Charles Darwin

Thinking101 Summer Institutes are designed for educators who know it is time to BE the CHANGE.do do bird

Join the Evolution: WE CANNOT WAIT FOR “NEW” CURRICULUM. IT IS TIME TO ACT NOW.

FIND AND FILL THE NUMERACY GAPS. LINK the LEARNING FROM LITERACY

BUILD CLASSROOMS THAT BUILD CRITICAL THINKERS who know and use knowledge and facts to solve problems, manage complexity and rationally respond to an ever changing world. Three and five day options at each location: Registration links

      U of Lethbridge: July 3 to 7

Whitecourt Alberta: July 10 to 14

Edmonton Alberta: August 14 to 18

Grande Prairie, Alberta: August 21 to 24

Numeracy/Literacy/ the ARTS and Sciences: In the primary years MakerSpace is not an option, it is how we engage our students in everything. It is time to bring that attitude to our teaching in 4 to 7.

Build the BASIC SKILLS through a focus on the BASIC EXPERIENCES and RELATIONSHIPS that support the learning and remembering at each grade.

IT IS TIME TO STOP JUMPING ON BAND WAGONS, FOLLOWING FADS AND PICKING UP CUTE NEW LINGO  …. WE NEED ACTION, WE NEED CHANGE, WE NEED TO SEE INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT THAT MATCH WHAT WE KNOW IS EFFECTIVE TEACHING. The faint of heart need not apply…Prepare to adjust your attitude and knowledge.

We must ask and answer the difficult questions….

Where’s the REASONING & CRITICAL THINKING in your math class? Where’s the REASONING & CRITICAL THINKING in your LITERACY & SCIENCE Program?

computational-think

It is not an add on. You do not need new apps, new ipads, new Chromebooks. You need to know and understand how humans learn to think…. Computational thinking does not require programs and clubs that teach “coding”. Mathematical reasoning is not developed after mind numbing years of following rules and trying to remember meaningless procedures… It is embedded in the approach our science and math curriculums ask us to take…. who knew?
