Concept based teaching in math focuses on a balance between reasoning & recall. Not one or the other, not at certain grades but every grade starting at Kindergarten. We must all teach students to think as they learn, to remember what they learn and how to retrieve and apply what they learn to new and novel situations.
As part of the 2 days, we will delve into a diagnostic that I have been developing over the past two years. It is a tool to use for identifying Numeracy Gaps K to 5 and links to the intervention supports that will help bridge those gaps. You will receive “training” on how to use in your classroom and share across your school. The skills highlighted form the foundation for success with Number from 1 to 10, to 20, to 1000 000, with place value and all its applications across addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as success with recalling “basic facts” and number properties
